What's a good basic point-and-shoot digital camera that's good for an amateur photographer looking to improve?
And something along the lines of no more than $ 300? I’m trying to get one for Christmas. I also want to be able to buy it from Target or some department store like that.
I’ve been into photography for about a year now and my ancient super crappy camera broke, so I’m looking for a better replacement. Any suggestions?

Shooting at 10″x12″ (approx) non-delicate plate at 300 yards with no scope, iron sights only. – 1950s Yugoslavian M48A Mauser. Sold for to 0 new when first arrived in America. – 1953 Surplus Yugoslavian 8mm Ammo (about 1 in 10 misfires). Most guys on youtube shooting at this range are using handloads. – Bold Target trigger is only modification. – Most hard part of iron sight shooting is that iron sights are black and social class I am shooting against is very dark. I have to start off lining up sights in green grass under target or against white posterboard target and go sights over to target while keeping both front and rear iron sights even. Then small white target is covered by front sight and I have to memorize or ‘feel’ the target. – I shoot several different iron sight rifles and each has a different ‘place’ to hit the small target which further complicates the sighting. – I dont have a creature spotter to tell me where I missed. Cant tell where I missed until I plug digital camera into computer at home. – Takes me about 5 minutes to shoot 5 shots and I edit down to a couple of seconds for each shot . – I use a sling and strap around my forearm to steady aim.
