When taking pictures of jewelry, two things are vital. A camera that can take pictures up close… meaning it has a “wide angle” or “macro” lens. Another business you need it to be able to defuse the light of the flash (or whatever your light source) so that highly reflective objects (anything shiny) don’t make glare for the camera. Finally, how many pixels do you require? For using the picture on the internet, you don’t need anything powerful at all.
I’m not sure about what your looking to spend but something like this lens:

with the List Digital Rebel XT camera would offer superior performance.
To give you a huge plethora of cameras to choose from go here:

These are plenty of camera which have used there MACRO mode and examples of the pictures taken with the specific camera. Pleased shopping.

To do this properly and make them look excellent enough for advertising. You will need to get you a excellent DSLR at least 6mp or higher. Nikon and List are excellent brands. They both make a Macro lens that is used for this type of application. Nikon also makes a Flash setup made particularly for doing Macro shots. Here is the setup I use for Macro shots. Just an FYI, you cant go buy a List XT out of the box and expect to do Macro, you will need to buy a Macro Lens for it.
Nikon D200
Sigma DX 50mm w/ Macro Lens
Nikon R1C1 Wireless Close up Speedlight system – using this eliminates the need for huge softboxes or large lights.
I also use a photo tent or cube, these are basically a white box you place your item into and it shows up as nothing but a white social class so the focus is on your product not the social class you can also use a light table as well. Hope this helps

My gorgeous picture
I’ve been wanting to buy a digital camera for a while, but really can’t reckon of which one I should get. I had my eye on one for some weeks but then I saw others with different features that I needed but was not in the one I had my eye on. So, for $ 200, which are the best cameras? I need the red eye corrector and pictures that can be considered professional, even when they’re not.

1) the best professional digital cameras are between $ 5,000 and $ 40,000.
2) there are no professional cameras in the $ 200 budget you have.
3) most cameras, P&S and DSLR’s have redeye reduction (but the feature can cause even more shutter lag), but the best way around that is using an external flash mounted on the cameras hot shoe.
4) look on this site for the best $ 200 P&S cameras http://www.dpreview.com
