What is the best ultra-compact digital camera that takes professional quality picures?

okay, maybe not professional quality, but very very very apparent and can also be blown up very large?
I want a small digital camera with quick shutter speed and crystal apparent pictures…. what camera is best?

Point and shoot cameras normally are smaller than a dSLR, but their sensors are so small that no matter how many megapix it boasts, a dSLR, unfortunately larger, will usually give you clearer photo.

These were taken with a dSLR. Another conundrum with a point and shoot camera is that you don’t have much control over the settings any.

But I do know what you mean about a large camera. This one is huge.

For apparent pictures that can be blown up large you’ll need as many megapixels as you can get.

Not sure what the fastest shutter speed an ultra-compact can obtain…obviously you’d be sacrificing image quality to do so as many ultra-compacts raise the ISO in order to get persons speeds. With ultra-compacts, if you use the higher ISO to get quick speeds, you’ll beyond doubt see a lot of grainy images that would look horrible blown up very large.

I would say…suck it up and get a Digital SLR (DSLR). The shutter speeds can be pretty excellent without a high ISO. Even the graininess of the high ISO is much better than the compacts. The megapixels for standard DSLRs are from 10 to 12.

CANON! My family has always had List digital cameras (particularly, the PowerShot SD Digital Elph series) and we have NEVER been disappointed. My Dad even blew up one of his pictures once and found a tiny piece of spinach in someones teeth — that he couldn’t even see in person!

I know, the image is not completely crisp, but with a compact digital camera, this was the best I may maybe do at the moment. The view but still strikes me…

I’ll like something shiny and slim and if at all possible uses SD cards. I’m looking for something that can take excellent apparent pics even when using the zoom functions. As for the price, something below 300 would be fantastic.
Oh I meant USD 300.

Two cameras that I recommend often are from List. Look at the SD850-IS (US$ 253 at B&H) and the new SD1100-IS (US$ 220 at B&H). The SD850-IS has a small more zoom power and the SD1100-IS is a small bit smaller to fit in your pocket. Both are still “shiny and slim” and use SD cards. Both have image stabilization for “excellent apparent pics even when using the zoom functions.”
