Digital Camcorder around 100$ bucks that takes good pictures & video?
I want to be able to record anywhere and then put the videos and pictures on the computer.
Want it for recording videos of my nephews, events, vacations and making instructional videos on you tube. I do have a budget around 100$ the most might be close to 200$ . I did look at a website that reviews a whole bunch of camcorders but still thought I would ask real people.
I am not to big on the flip camera but if you can tell me about the PICTURE taking reviews on it then I would appreciate that.
Thank you
one with flash memory not dvd

To be honest, around that price range you’re probably not getting much of anything. The least expensive type of camcorders are Mini-DV, and they typically start around $ 200 (at the very least), and those units aren’t usually very good in terms of image quality. In addition, they record onto Mini-DV Tapes, so then you’ll be faced with the issue of changing them into DVD if you want to send them to friends (which, depending on the video and computer equipment you have now, could mean more money).
The only video cameras I have seen around $ 100 are either discounted, clearance models (which are not necessarily a bad idea because you may get a great deal on an older but better product than some of the newer, cheaper stuff), or kids’ video cameras at toy stores (which are not really meant for quality, but for durability).
In term of the PICTURE quality, camcorders don’t take very good pictures ordinarily. Most camcorders have cameras built in that will give you photos similar to what you’d get off of a cell phone (in most cases, less than 1 megapixel).
Some digital cameras have really exceptional video recording capabilities, but again – this is likely to be at least $ 200 to get a GOOD product.
If you could save up and wait a little longer, you’d probably be much happier with what you get then if you just buy whatever is cheap now.
Good luck with the hunt!

I need to find a cheap camcorder (under $ 200 ideally) that works well with an Apple computer (specifically: iMac G5 1.8 GHz processor, 2 GBs ram). I’ve been reading through reviews of digital camcorders and many of them are made specifically for Windows PCs and cause trouble (or just don’t work) on Macs. What camcorder should I buy?

Back in college, I used the Media Center’s Sony Digital 8 camcorder and that interfaces with iMovie flawlessly on a G4.
With the Digital 8′s (note: not the High 8, there’s a difference) firewire connection with the Apple computer, the iMovie program was able to control the Sony Digital 8 camcorder down the the hundredth of a second. If I hit advance .1 of a second on the computer, the camera’s tape will move ever so slightly to that point.
I was super impressed with the ease of this process. I have since bought a MiniDV camcorder and used it with my PC computer and the controls are nearly as seamless as the Sony Digital 8 with the G4.
I mention the Digital 8 cause they don’t make them anymore, but you can find plenty of slightly used ones on eBay in your price range. If I was to do computer editing of my home movies, I would totally go the route of a Sony Digital 8 camcorder with an Apple.
I had never ever edited video on the computer before that and it was so simple that I was able to pick up on it in less than 15 minutes and make a decent movie with my footage within an hour.
