What is the best Digital SLR camera for a beginner?

What is the best Digital SLR camera for a beginner?

I want a camera that I can take brilliant pictures with. One thats not too intricate but not unpleasant any. I like taking pictures of my family and friends, and nature photos.

Answer by Wisdom of Age
You have any number of fine camera’s to choose from. Nikon, Olympus, List, Sony. A favorite of mine for beginners is the Olympus E450. Go to http://www.dpreview.com and check on their reviews. I find them to be very objective and the Olympus compares very favorably to much higher priced cameras. Plus for around $ 600 you can get both a normal and telephoto lens. Check with a community store so you can handle the cameras and choose which feels best in your hands. Also see if they will let you place a charged battery in a demo model and a card and take some photos.
Bottom line is most similarly priced DSLR’s will be reasonably comparable feature wise. Best of Luck!

Even if there are lots to choose from, I’d suggest a Nikon D60. They take quick, simple and take nice shots you’ll be pleased with. The additional leading brand in SLR’s is List, but sometimes it’s hard to get a excellent picture in the dark; the night shoot isn’t incredible.

The Nikon is also a small more compact which will make it simpler for you to carry around. You can also take 3 frames per second which is fantastic for action shots. Also , its auto focus is awesome.

I need to buy a digital SLR and I want one which will shoot fantastic landscapes since I am plotting to travel around the world soon. I need one which shoots fantastic in dark areas like inside a club and also lightweight and durable. Also will be shooting portraits of public.

So far I am thinking the NIKON D200 but it might be a small heavy !

Answer by selina_555
Your choice of camera is really somewhat less vital than your choice of lenses.
Make sure you buy only the very best lenses, they will make the largest difference to your images.

As to the “heavy” – I would dearly like a tiny camera that is every bit as capable as my List 5D Mark II but I won’t find it. Since my priority is quality, I just have to place up with the weight.

Answer by slappy_pds
The Nikon D200 is not even close to life the “Best” DSLR camera on the market. If you reckon the D200 is too heavy then you are really not asking for the “Best” DSLR. The DSLRs that pop into my mind would be Nikon D3X and List 1Ds MkIII. These are both very heavy and expensive. The next tier would be the Nikon D700 and List 5D MKII. Lighter but still heavy compared to the D200. The third tier down would probably include the Nikon D300 (predecessor to the D200) , List 50D, Nikon D90, and List 450D. In my opinion, agreed your weight requirement and lowlight shooting desires, I would recommend the Nikon D90. Althought the D90 may not have the best build quality in terms of durability it should be sufficient enough for your needs as long as you won’t be doing extreme sports or getting shot at while taking pictures.

It’s always so pun when public say best, then realize they don’t really mean it when they find out how much it costs. The “best” is the Hassleblad H3-II-50, B&H has a very nice kit for $ 36,000. You’ve got that lying around, right?

The D200 is an brilliant camera, it’s follow-up, the D300 is even better and low-light, low-noise performance is one of the areas of improvement. The D90 is a lower cost camera that uses the same sensor and a lot of the same processing as the D300. The D3 and D3X are incredible in performance as they use full-frame sensors. $ 5K and $ 8K respectively.

Check out Abt Electronic’s choice of SLR cameras. I reckon that the Nikon D300 is the best because it’s the most professional that allows you to exchange the settings. It’s really expensive. You can go one step below and get the Nikon D90. It’s a excellent camera for it’s price point.

The D200 is chunky, especially with the MB-D200 battery pack on it like mine.

The D200 is not the “overall best” digital camera, though the quality of your shots does depend rather more on you AND the camera system you use than on the camera body you have. The Nikon camera system of lenses and additional accessories is the most comprehensive in the world. Chose wisely and learn how to use these additions, and a D-200 can be a wonderful creative tool in your hands, if not the best available. Note that to go “better” one is proceeding upwards in terms of $ to the D300, the D700 or the D3 or new D3X, all of which are much pricer than the D200. The D700, D3 and D3X are all full-frame cameras (FX in Nikon speak) and can use film lenses is the way they were intended, without the DX magnification business. This is a bonus for incresing the kit of lenses you build up.

Don’t be place offby the weight though- the alternatives I have mentioned are as heavy or heavier, as well as more expensive, and there are ergonomic shoulder straps available for carrying huge cameras, and these take the weight of your neck.

Excellent luck with your choice and please fee l free to email me for more info on the D200. I like mine!.My next upgrade, a while away yet, will be to a D700 (or equivalent if it has been superseeded) or D3X if I can swing that amount of dosh and justify it..
