what is the best digital camera to buy?
this would be my first huge time camera. i want a camera thats kinda professional but has a lower cost. i was thinking about getting the nikon d60 but im not sure. i like to take picture of public more of than landscapes, any thoughts?
Answer by fhotoace
The D60 is a excellent one, but for the same money, you can buy a D40 with two lenses. As you will soon learn, the lenses make a huge difference in your enjoyment when moving into fully adjustable camera systems.
The brilliant 18-55 mm lens is perfect for shooting public and the 55-200 mm VR perfect for shooting public in action.

We just got the List Xsi and it is awesome. We like it and it takes fantastic photos and is simple to use. There is a excellent reason List has the most well loved cameras.
Here is a link to the list:

he took my List 40D so I had to use my D80, I can’t wait to get a EOS50D and place my 70-200f4LIS and EF-S17-55f2.8IS on it.
Nikon and Olympus do not offer me any similar lens to my EF70-200f4LIS , which is the best lens I ‘ve ever used in my life.
But I like my Nikon AF-S16-85VR ,which List should copy , but Nikon lacks all F4 pro zooms of List, it is a huge conundrum and Nikon does not make any excellent fill in with SWM calculated for digital or optimized for EF-S sensors.
my 35f2D is a flare machine and lose contrast when I shoot in Thailand or Malaysia, it was ok in Japan though.
UPDATE: finally I chose to buy the Panasonic GH1 but need to wait until Panasonic accounces the rumored PL20f1.7G.
UPDATE 2: I returned the GH1 , I dislike its stylishness and its AF is really horrible.
I will get the EP1 and expect to restore it too.
Oh well, there is no perfect compact camera yet, I guess I need my D90 for a while for walk around with the brilliant AFS16-85VR, aFS35f1.8g , AFS50f1.4G ,AF85f1.8D and AFS105f2.8VR.
I mostly place my AFS70-200f2.8VR and AFS70-300VR at home cause I dont shoot tele often , when I do it I know it and carry only dedicated tele zoom and primes , and for tele work I use my D300 not my D90 cause the D300 gets the shot I need ,I like Thai squirrels , they are huge and friendly jumping from branch to branch around 4 pm before that they seem sleeping on a tall tree always.
Camera = Nikon D100 SLR
My first SLR and just wondering which lens is best to get.
I don’t want to spend much.
Looking for second hand so any Ebay links would be fantastic.
Looking at spending less than £100.
Thanks in advanced for any help!

you should look into getting the 50mm 1.8 its around 90-100 bucks. fantastic in low light and pretty excellent for portraits and if you buy a macro converter adapter you’ll be able to use it for macro shots too!
Answer by fhotoace
You may be able to find a nice used AF 50 mm f/1.8 or AF 50 mm f/1.4 within your budget

My favorite lens I used on my D100 was that AF-S Nikkor 24-85 mm lens. You may have to save more pennies to buy even a used one, but it will be worth the wait.

Well here is an answer you will delete in a rush! Just draw a huge circle and list the available lenses around this circle then place a soda bottle in the middle and spin it !
Now if you haven’t deleted me, I would advise you to hold on to your money until a specific need arises which can only be solved by say one or two of the lenses offered. Then question your question citing what you want to photograph and the lens or lenses you are considering buying. Question us to comment.

You have a body and no lens, and you don’t want to spend a lot. So for now there is no point in adding a sometimes-useful lens like the 50mm to a collection that you don’t have.
The answer is the AF-S 18-55mm VR kit lens. Even if public upgrade to fancier lenses, it is versatile and excellent. Used samples in brilliant condition are abundant.

I agree that the Nikon 18-55 is probably your best bet for a cheap lens. It’s an brilliant lens for what it is, and can do most everything reasonably well. The only business that it can’t do is zoom very far, but that’s why God gave you feet. If you can track down a Nikon 18-70 that would be an brilliant choice, too.
