Which is better: the List Elan IIE or the List Elan 7 E? I’ve looked at both. I have photography training, so I’m not a beginner at using a complex camera. I just need excellent auto-focus, excellent quality pics and functionality for a lot of different situations. Also, cheapness!

Look at the DSLR 5D , fantastic camera

As a pro photographer, I would have to question why use a film camera at your level? The learning curve is steeper and longer (& costlier) with film than with digital. Get a List digital SLR and pick up your EOS Elan later. The D30 or 10D is a fantastic entry digital and can use any lenses you have now and in the future. (check ebay for these) I would stay away from the 20D and new digital rebel cameras since they come with EF-S lenses, which will not work with your Elan. You should be learning composition at your level. Once you get the mechanics and technical aspects down, you can then use the digital as proof before you make your film shot. Since you can interchange lenses it is the next best business to a interchangable Polorid film back system I use to use with my ‘blad. You can test exposure, lighting, composition with the digital and use the film camera for your final shot.

You better check with the theater how they define “Professional” camera, because it is their definition that count.

It can be anything with a lens emotionally involved to it.

Back to your question, G9 is not a Professional camera. It is a Prosumer camera.

No it is not. If you walk in the door with a huge DSLR and a flash that may maybe light up the state of Texas that is a pro-camera.
