Single Lens Reflex

Answer by William W
SLR, as mentioned, is Single Lens Reflex. What that means is that while viewing something, a mirror directs (reflects) the image to the viewfinder. When snapping a picture the mirror swings out of the way so that the image continues on to the film / photosensitive pickup. Only a single lens is used.
The other type of camera uses a separate lens for the viewfinder which can cause inaccuracies at close distances. Also the single lens provides a much more accurate representation of focus accuracy.

Single Lens Reflex camera.

This means that there is a mirror that falls down so the photographer can see the same image that the film will capture. When the photographer presses the camera trigger, the mirror pops up out of the way.

It just refers to one lens for both sighting and photographing.

In Print – What Digital Camera
nikon digital camera

Two weeks ago I had an email from Mat Gallagher, the deputy editor of What Digital Magazine, requesting permission to use the Newmarket Nights picture in a feature the following month. It was a pleasant surprise to see the image used as part of the Low Light feature in the November 2009 issue of What Digital Camera. Thanks Mat! :-)

Now all images from the three sets/sequences shot that night been sold or used, with the Flickr one coming in last.

I have been using an old 35mm camera with a 50-200mm lens. I found that I enjoy taking photos and would like to pick it up as one of my hobbies. The problem with the 35mm camera is that you have to buy the film then pay to get them developed, and when you take a lot of pictures it becomes expensive. So I was wondering which digital camera brand is better Nikon or cannon

Answer by Death™
Honestly, with the amount of technology that’s out there these days, the brand doesn’t really matter as long as it’s a major brand.

If you look at the cameras, sure, you can see the names and tell a difference…but if you look at the images, the thing that really matters is the photographer.

Now, there ARE diehard fans of each brand, who have used the same brand all their lives…and each brand DOES have some unique aspects, but they don’t tend to be needed very often, and they don’t tend to make a huge difference in the image.

i have a cannon and i love it !

It’s Canon not Cannon.

Canon still makes f/1.2 AF lenses. Nikon doesn’t. That’s big deal if you need them.

Neither brand is better. Both are well regarded manufacturers. I like the fact that Nikons can use the older manual legacy lenses. I use Canon 35mm cameras and Nikon APS-C cameras.

Nikon, of course.

Honestly, they are both about the same. Canon has been having some focus issues with their high end line, but the newest body seems to have it corrected.

Nikon is nice because you can use older manual focus glass with a digital body. A 600mm F4 autofocus lens will cost around 6,0000 used, while a manual focus 600mm F4 will cost around 3,500.

Look at the Nikon D300s, or the Canon 7D as good semi-pro cameras.

Here’s a shot with the D300 and a 600mm F4:
