Do SLR digital Camera Nikon D40x & D80 use the same lens? Can D80 use more lens than D40x ?

Do SLR digital Camera Nikon D40x & D80 use the same lens? Can D80 use more lens than D40x ?

I know the D40x ONLY can use the AF-S & AF-I lens. What about the D80, can it use more lens? I am looking the one can use most of the Nikon lens.

Both the 40 and the 80 meter with non-AF-S lenses.

Only the 80 will autofocus with them.

So if you need AF, 80′s your baby.

The D80 can use any lens made since 1959 (with a small trip to the camera repair shop for a minor modification), but of course the manual lenses will have to be manually focused.. The lenses the D40 will use are any lens made after1992. That earnings you can use lenses that are over 15 years ancient; .. not that huge a drawback.

Just delight in your cameras and shoot like a wild person.

Basically out of the box, the D80 will use any lens marked AF.

It’s not really honest to say that the D40/X can only use AF-I or AF-S lenses. The D40/X has a small focus indicator down in the bottom left corner of the viewfinder view. This focus indicator will still work in any of its modes, even if the lens lacks focus motor incorporated into the AF-S series lenses. So the camera will tell you when it thinks the scene is in focus, literally all you have to do is turn the lens focus ring. That is the only difference.

Apart from that difference the two cameras are the same in respect to the lenses they can use. I have built-in a link below to a chart of lens compatibility for Nikon cameras and lenses.

From http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/NikonD40X/page2.asp

Type G or D AF Nikkor
• AF-S, AF-I – All functions supported
• Additional Type G or D AF Nikkor – All functions supported except autofocus
• PC Micro-Nikkor 85mm f/2.8D – Can only be used in mode M; all additional functions supported except autofocus
• Additional AF Nikkor*2/AI-P Nikkor – All functions supported except autofocus and 3D Color Matrix Metering II
• Non-CPU – Can be used in mode M, but exposure meter does not function; electronic range finder can be used if maximum aperture is f/5.6 or nearer
• IX Nikkor – Can not be used

And http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/NikonD80/page2.asp

• DX Nikkor : All functions supported
• Type G or D AF Nikkor : All functions supported
• Micro Nikkor 85 mm F2.8D : All functions supported except autofocus and some exposure modes
• Additional AF Nikkor*2 : All functions supported except 3D color matrix metering, i-TTL balanced fill-fl ash for digital SLR
• Non-CPU : Can be used in exposure mode M, but exposure meter does not function; electronic range finder can be used if maximum aperture is f/5.6 or nearer
*1 IX Nikkor lenses can not be used
*2 Excluding lenses for F3AF

So basically the D80 have better compatibility compared to the D40x, but you can use lenses additional than AF-S and AF-I with the D40x, except that you cannot use autofocus with it.

They both can use all Nikkor lenses made since the 1970s. They can both use G and D type lenses. The business is, that some of the lenses are manual focus only, or the camera can only manual focus with the lense on. The D40x can use AF lenses, but the lense would have to be manually focused. You may maybe not use the auto focus with these. I would choose the D80 since it can auto focus with all auto focus lenses and I just reckon it is a better camera.

Answer by Jeroen Wijnands
Nikon does not seem to make a cover for your d3100 and that earnings you’re stick with whatever’s on offer from 3rd party manufacturers. Best bet would be some sort of stick-on screen protector. See what’s on ebay

Visit www.microglobe.co.uk also www.camerarace.com for details. Nikon D2xs Nikon D60 camera Two and a half years ago Nikon publicized the 6 megapixel Nikon D70, their first reasonable enthusiasts digital SLR, it proved to be a very well-known camera and strong competitor to the List EOS 300D (Digital Rebel). Just 15 months later Nikon revealed the Nikon D70s which was basically the same camera with a some subtle tweaks (improved AF, wider flash coverage, higher capacity battery, larger LCD monitor). And so just over 15 months on from the D70s Nikon present the latest incarnation of their ‘enthusiasts’ digital SLR line, the 10.2 megapixel Nikon D80. The Nikon D80 slots nicely between the entry-level Nikon D50 and the semi-professional professional Nikon D200, clearly based on the D70 design but also different enough to be seen as a completely new model. It features a ten megapixel DX format CCD (the same we presume as used by Sony in the DSLR-A100), the metering sensor from the D50 and numerous additional items taken or modified from the D200. Nikon D2Hs and D2H are also wonderful cameras.
