So you want the best professional digital camera for 2-3 hundred dollars? Anyways my opinion is that Canon makes a great camera line. The SD series is my favorite of the point and click genre. Go to a Best Buy to check out some cameras but don’t let them pressure you into buying anything especially insurance or accesories.

You’ll have to add a zero to your budget to even talk about professional equipment, but don’t despair. I have a recommendation for you that you will be very satsfied with. Since you have a background in a film camera, you will surely be looking for manual control of the shutter and aperture and you can NOT get that in any Canon SD-series cameras. I own and love a Canon SD900, but this is my pocket camera for the times when I don’t want to drag out the big guns. You don’t get manual control, though. You want a Canon Powershot A640.
I own a few Nikon DSLR’s and I’d buy the Canon Powershot A630 or A640 for myself. These cameras have the larger sensor (1/1.8″ or 5.2 mm x 7.2 mm) that is nearly double the sensor size you find in many point and shoot cameras and this translates into better image quality. They allow fully automatic use or total user control and offer several stages in between. The only significant difference between these cameras is that the A630 is 8 MP and the A640 is 10 MP.
If you’re going to spend up to $ 230, look at a Canon Powershot A630. My brother has had his A630 for over a year and it’s a very nice camera. You can get it at B&H Photo (available through Yahoo! Shopping) for $ 192.
If you can go to $ 300, look at the 10 MP Canon Powershot A640. This is an excellent camera. It sells for $ 260 and you can add a very nice memory card for under $ 40. The images from the A640 compare VERY favorably with the images from a Canon G7, which costs about twice as much.
For either camera, buy a 1 or 2 GB Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III card. You will NEED the increased capacity and write speed to fully realize the benefits of your camera. The Ultra II would be excellent, but if you are really into video, you might prefer the faster Extreme III. These cards cost from about $ 25-45 at B&H and several other outlets.

Well to start with, you won’t find a professional level digital camera for two or three hundred dollars, at least not a new one, but you can find some good point-and-shoot cameras. With a little know how these can produce some professional looking photos. (though for around $ 600 Canon’s Rebel XT is a great entry level dSLR) For the best, sharpest photos, the lens and sensor are your most important components. You will probably find the best quality components for your money if you stick with Canon or Nikon. These are the “big two” camera manufacturers so they are able to give you more bang for your buck than some of the other brands with less production power. As far as zoom and set up goes, I can’t recommend any particular model, but Canon’s “Powershot” and Nikon’s “Coolpix” lines seem to get pretty good reviews. I would suggest shopping around the different models until you find one with the features you like. Also, I would advise looking for a camera with shutter priority, aperture priority, manual, and program modes, as well as auto shooting modes. This will give you more control over your shots. I would also suggest buying one with more of the features you want versus one with a higher mega-pixel count. Most digi-cams sold today are at least 5 or 6 MP, which is plenty unless you are planning on making poster sized prints. Don’t let the salesman sway you toward an 8 or 10mp camera if it doesn’t have the features you want, extra pixels don’t mean much if the photo doesn’t capture what you wanted.

What is the best professional Digital Camera for a very low price, I’m talking around $ 300-$ 350. Is there such thing as a digital SLR for that cheap? If not, do they have any good cameras with a manual focus lens that is removable for that price? Thanks!
Answer by fhotoace
At present the only new DSLR in your budget range will cost at least $ 450 with a lens. Look on Amazon for such a camera
For less than $ 350 you are looking at a good used DSLR

There are several different models of Canon digital cameras for less than that and they all can be totally used manually or auto.
