Nikon is much better than Sony if you are talking about cameras in the D90 range. When it comes to point and shoot I still reckon Nikon is better than Sony, but Sony does well too. For DSLR though, go Nikon (or Canon). When you look at what the professionals use it is Nikon and Canon 99% of the time. There is a reason for that.

I’m by Nikon D80 which is a very suitable DSLR for me. It’s body support my huge palm fitly. And a excellent raw image file.
And I know a guy with D90, he’s just bought it for about a week. I’ve test it by for myself and I’m very like it’s noise reduction. At ISO 2500, the image is very hard to find some noise. In addition, if you use a nikkor lens with VR, it’s will much help you to take a picture in the very very dark house like on a hill when you going on a picnic.
These are some Nikon D90 Choice.

This is Nikkor 50 1.4 which is much better than Nikkor 50 1.8 for a likeness imaging.

This is Nikkor 12-24 for a scenery picture to take as much as view into your picture.

Nikon D90 + 70-200mm f2.8 ED VR II
The new Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 ED VR II lens on a D90.
Since the D90 is a mostly plastic body, this combination is very unbalanced and front-heavy. Holding just the camera feels as if the lens is going to rip right out of the lens mount!
So I’m plotting on taking photography in my school in spring of next year and they require a 35-mm camera with f-stop and shutter controls.
Does a Nikon D90 or Nikon D5000 have that? Orr any sort of digital slr camera?
Delight help, I’m plotting to make a buy soon.
Thanks.

Any DSLR will have fully manual controls, which includes f-stop and shutter speed controls. Along with white balance, ISO, exposure compensation, etc. Entry level DSLRs included, such as the Nikon D40 or D60, or Canon Digital Rebel series.
Though if your in need of a 35mm for your class, that doesn’t include digital cameras. If that is the case, a excellent example of a camera you’d be looking for would be any of the 35mm Canon EOS Rebels (not digital rebels). Excellent price, excellent quality.

You need a FILM CAMERA. Not a D anything, An F something.
35mm means 35mm film. and all manual ones have those controls. You’ll see a leaver on the right top side if it’s manual.

No digital camera will work for your class. You need to get a 35mm film SLR camera, like a Pentax K1000. There are numerous more makes and models that will work.

Hey 5×5, the film winding handle is SO 1970′s… there are many models of 35mm film camera without such a handle. My Nikon F does have one, but my Minolta 7000 does not. Autowinders… built into the body. They are a excellent thing.
And like everyone else said already, you need a film camera, not a D90.
