Q&A: What is the best digital video camera with a mic input?

Q&A: What is the best digital video camera with a mic input?

I am doing some interviews with a digital video camera and am looking for a quality camera with an input for a microphone. Also looking for recommendations for everywhere I can find a lapel microphone.

The price ranges from about $ 300 for a Canon standard definition consumer grade camcorder to around $ 1,000 for a higher end consumer camcorder to around $ 2,000 for a Sony prosumer camcorder to around $ 3,000 for a JVC pro camcorder to around $ 4,000 for a Panasonic pro camcorder to $ 8,000 for a Canon pro camcorder to $ 20,000 for a Sony pro camcorder – and they go up from here. As the price goes up, lenses and imaging chips get larger, the 1/8″ stereo audio input evolves to XLR connectors, manual controls go out of the menu (if they are even available) to the outside of the camcorder and the video quality improves – a LOT.

Lavalieres can be wired or wireless. I like the Sennheiser G3 wireless series. They start at a small less than $ 800 for the mic, body pack and portable base station… bhphotovideo and adorama are reputable – there are others (Abes of Main, Guitar Center, musiciansfriend…)

Since you provided no budget, there is no way for anyone to make a specific recommendation.

If you are editing the video , we need to know what you are plotting to edit with – computer hardware and software…

Toshiba’s waterproof Camileo BW10 does 1080p video, 5 megapixel stills for 0
