Q&A: Can you help me measure the screen size of your digital camera?

Q&A: Can you help me measure the screen size of your digital camera?

I’m doing a survey on digital cameras and I noticed all camera models have different screen size. For example, a Canon 2.5″ screen camera has a different screen size compared to a Sony 2.5″..

Could you guy/gals please help me by taking out your ruler and helping me measure the dimensions of your camera screen? Virtually all models are needed, with emphasis on models from 2004 to 2006. I’ll like it in mm * mm please.

If your camera screen is embedded within a glass panel, something like casio exilim, could you please also measure the size of the glass area for me?

I would prefer answers in this format:

Model: ie. Panasonic Lumix FX9
Screen size: ie. 49mm * 37mm
Glass size: ie. 59mm * 44mm

If your model does not have a glass size, just put “NA”

Thanx everyone in advance! Will rate everyone well =]

As per myknowledge, the screen size is better measured diagonally. Mine is Sony DSCW 50 , Screen Size – 2.5 Inches.

Sony DSLR-A100 with an M42 mount lens
sony digital camera compare

My first SLR (digital or otherwise) camera, which I got in August 2006. Has suffered some loss of paint around the lens mount, but otherwise has performed flawlessly.

Sony/Minolta AF lens mount.
Minolta flash hotshoe. CCD-shift anti-shake system.
Shutter speeds: 30s-1/4000s, B. Self-timer, mirror lock-up in 2 second mode.
Flash sync: 1/125s with anti-shake, 1/160s otherwise.
Built-in flash: GN 12 (meters @ ISO 100)
Spherical acute matte pentamirror viewfinder.

Battery: NP-FM55H Lithium-Ion

The camera uses Minolta/Sony AF mount lenses natively, but I use old M42 screw mount lenses, such as the Pentax Super-Multi-Coated Takumar seen here, almost exclusively. A special electronic M42 adapter is required to take advantage of the built-in anti-shake mechanism in the A100, as this system needs knowledge of the (approximate) focal length to operate properly. Also, due to some idiocy, the focus confirmation light doesn’t work without an electronic lens (or adapter) attached. Fortunately, such adapters are now available from a variety of manufacturers.

A common problem with M42 adapters is that they may be slightly too thick for the lens to achieve infinity focus. It may be hard to see this problem without a correct adapter for comparison, as it’s possbile to simply attribute the infinity softness to the lens, but comparing sharpness at "infinity" and at some finite distance of focus reveals that actually most M42 adapters have infinity focus slightly off… even ones where the seller claims otherwise.

One solution to the M42 adapter infinity focus problem is to sand the face of the adapter slightly until it’s thin enough to reach infinity. Personally I’ve used 1200 grade silicon carbide paper to sand mine. Some adapters required just a slight sanding to reach infinity, while the worst required fourth of a millimetre taken off, which was quite a chore (and caused the lens to end up in the wrong orientation when screwed on). The electric adapters seem better made with regard to infinity focus, so just get one of those.

I’m about to buy this Canon SX30IS Camera because I like its 35x wide angle optical zoom

but I thought would be wise to compare to other camera models first.

What would be the right match to compare with?
Which one from Sony?
Kodak?
Nikon?
Panasonic?

Thanks.

Nikon COOLPIX P500

12.1-megapixel CMOS sensor for high-speed operation and exceptional low-light performance.
Capture 5 shots in one second at full resolution
Full HD (1080p) Movie with Stereo sound and HDMI Output
5-way VR Image Stabilization System

The camera is good but pretty much expensive. Moreover there are noises in the picture as I found. A night picture is not satisfactory too! You can also have look over Nikon coolpix P500. The so called zooms are nothing but an instrument to merchandise the product.
It is always advisable always go for the DSLR while you are paying that much.
Thanks & Regards.

Canon sx30 IS can be compared with Nikon p500.
Some of the advantages of Canon over nikon are:

3. Canon has slightly larger sensor.
4. Long exposures in Canon is more than the Nikon.
5. Canon has better Macro capability than Nikon.

7. Supports external flash.

Some advantages of Nikon over Canon are:
1. Nikon has 36x zoom while canon has 35x.
2. Nikon can take a video at 1080p@30 fps while Canon has 720p@30fps.
3. Sensor is made of CMOS while Canon has CCD sensor.
4. Shoots significantly faster @10 fps while Canon shoots @1.1fps.

Here we compare two cameras, the Sony H1 & H7B. H1 is 5MP and H7B is 8MP. The Sony cybershot H1 uses two AA batteries, while the Sony H7B uses the new lithium ion rechargable.
