Picking a waterproof camera?

Picking a waterproof camera?

Ok, so in about 6 months I am going on a trip to Belize and want to bring a excellent camera. I have numerous things i am looking at:
excellent megapixels
very excellent macro setting
waterproof for at least 10 feet
shockproof
a wide angle mode or something like that

I don’t know much about cameras, but I’m thinking macro and wide angle might be counter-intuituve (can only one, not both).
I want the excellent macro for the cool insects, plants, etc we come upon.
I want the waterproof for two reasons: its a rainforest; and we will be going snorkeling

As far as the snorkeling, i don’t reckon we will be going deep so water proof doesn’t need to be too deep. I also was thinking a wide angle mode wold be nice to take photos of the reefs and sea life while snorkeling.

So far i’ve been looking and have lessened my main consideration down to the Pentax Optio W90 (http://www.pentaximaging.com/digital-camera/Optio_W90_Black/) and the Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 (http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1496)

I will consider other options but these are what I’m thinking of so far

Out of these two Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 is a better option to go with but I would even suggest you Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 12MP Digital Camera with 4.6x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom

Give your answer to this question below!

Im. trying to buy a camera and my conundrum is that i’ve never owned one before. I did a small research and there are a few cameras that seemed really excellent. Which is better if i want durability, quality, and style? (in that order)
a Olympus stylus 720 SW (the waterproof, shockproof),
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T50,
Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z70,
or a Cannon PowerShot SD700 IS Digital ELPH.

Since you are new at this, I won’t bore you with all the details, but I will tell you that I have chose to buy a Canon SD700-IS for for myself as soon as the Christmas season passes. Among this group of cameras, it is the ONLY one with an optical viewfinder, so you will now have the opportunity to read my rant about why I reckon you must have an optical viewfinder.

I would choose nearly any camera with an optical viewfinder over one that only has an LCD viewfinder. Why?

1. You never have the option of turning off the LCD and these things eat batteries for lunch and spit them out. Why do away with the option of a viewfinder that has zero electrical drain?

2. It can be trying to see the image on an LCD in bright sunlight, even if they are “new and improved.”

3. You have to hold an LCD viewer out at some distance in front of your face. This is more conspicuous than I prefer to be all the time.

4. The need to hold a camera at arms length will introduce some shake. I like the thought of stabilizing a camera against my face when I am taking a picture. This is especially vital with a longer zoom lens. No wonder “image stablization” or “vibration reduction” is necessary with these cameras. Not that there’s anything WRONG with IS or VR, but it is really a requirement with LCD viewfinders and telephoto lenses.

5. By the LCD to view photos after you’ve taken them slows down the camera quite a bit. You can’t shut of the LCD monitor and still take pictures if you don’t have an optical viewfinder.

Bottom line – I am going to buy a Canon SD700-IS and, as long as it is on your list, I reckon you should, too.
