I’m looking into photography as a part of my career, but I’ve never taken lessons or learned how to handle a DSLR. Is the Rebel XSi a excellent choice? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

If you firmly believe that you will take digital SLR photography very seriously in the long run and want a solid entry-level digital SLR camera, then the Canon XSi may be a best choice for you

I would suggest the Rebel XS (1000D). I own one and just like it.
Take a look at some of the shots I’ve gotten recently with my XS.
I have added a couple of lenses to my gadget bag and am having a fantastic time.

It is going to be an X-mas present, but I know nothing about cameras and I want to make sure that it is of decent quality and can be used with all different types of lenses. Thanks.

Its a nice camera and one can use all Canon lenses with it.Picture quality is par with expensive ones because its sensor size is same. Also expensive camera does not always mean to take better pictures.Just more controls, better focusing ,ISO routine and roughness are the advantages of the expensive ones…

XSi is a fantastic camera to start with when getting serious about photography. I have been shooting 35mm SLR camera’s for being and finally added a Canon T1i to my pool as my first DSLR. It is a step up from the XSi and has HD movie capability. If this is vital to you, I would go with the T1i, if not, the XSi will be a fantastic DSLR to start on and you will be able to use any Canon EF lens with it.

I have a 450D – fantastic camera. Perfect as a 1st DSLR. Use it in full auto mode while you get used to it then take more control as your confidence builds.
You can get a really wide range of lenses made by Canon and 3rd Party such as Sigma, Tamron.

It doesn’t do movies though so if that is vital then go for the next model up – EOS500D aka Rebel T1i.

Go for it – you won’t be sorry.

Incredible Canon Rebel XSi commercial that I saw on TV the other day. I heard that they shot over 70000 photos to make this spot.
