I recently broke my digital camera and I’m looking for a replacement. I read the latest article from Consumer Reports and I really like the Canon PowerShot A720 IS. It seems like a excellent camera that does a small bit of everything at a fantastic price.

My only concern is that it takes 2 AA batteries. My previous camera had a rechargeable battery and that is a feature I want to have again. Though, I’m willing to compromise if the batteries don’t have to be replaced very often. I don’t want to spend a fortune in batteries or have to carry any extra batteries with me when I want to take photos. Can anyone who owns this camera (or another model that uses batteries) tell me about the battery situation? Or any other helpful info?

What you will want to do is add about $ 20-30 to your budget for a set of 4 NiMH (Nickel-Metal-Hydrade) rechargeable batteries and a smart charger. They will perform a lot better than disposable alkalines and you will only buy them once for a long life cycle. One set in camera, one in charging. They will not last as long as dedicated rechargeable batteries in some cameras, but you always have a second set (take it with you for long trips), plus if both sets run out, you can always grab a couple of disposables at nearby drug store!

Get some Maha Powerex 2700 mah AA nimh rechargeables and their C204W charger(worldwide voltage compatible). I use these in my Canon A710 IS and get 500 pics on a charge, by the LCD screen 100% and the sparkle as necessary. GOOD STUFF. Look at www.thomasdistributing.com.
