Shopping for a new digital video camera?

Shopping for a new digital video camera?

I am currently browsing the market for a digital record camera to make small films with. I need something that gives me control of the manual background i.e. focus, exposure, shutter speed. I’m looking to spend over $ 400. What are some excellent ones?

List HV30. The manual settings are not exactly simple to get to (through the menu), but it has manual audio control and can do 24p and it has a mic jack. The Sony HDR-HC9 is in the same boat (no 24p, but a digitally rendered “CineFrame”).

If you want all persons controls on the outside of the camcorder so they are simple to access, then you jump to prosumer cams:
Standard definition: List GL2; Sony DCR-VX2100
High definition: Sony HDR-FX1000

If you need what is in the prosumers + XLR audio relations, then you jump to the pro cams: List XHA1; Sony HVR-Z5; Panasonic HVX200; JVC GY series…

Coming up on the action…

Can anyone suggest me models or series of models for digital cameras that can be used easily for producing videos and sending them to the computer for control? I don’t know much but some features I’m looking for are:

-Timelapse
-Recording with simple input to computer (if at all possible USB)
-High quality recording is greatest priority

I guess what I’m picturing is more of a record camera rather than a single frame capturing sort of deal. Thanks!

pentax optio t30

awesome camera and it’s not bulky or anything. i got it last february and i’ve been in like with it since the moment i got it. TONS and TONS of different special effects and stuff. you can crop, red-eye, doodle on it and lots more right on the camera. super cool awesome camera.

and it’s a touch screen too. which adds to the awesomness. :) )
