Would anyone out their no about a sony bvp5 professional camcorder?
Sony color video camera model BVP-5 wiith a cannon lens J13 x 9b4 ies II sx12 I want to use it for broadcast quality DVD production
Answer by Nick
I had trouble finding any info on this camera. I have had great experience with the Canon GL2 and XL1. Depending on your budget, one of these is probably your best bet. It records on digital MiniDV tapes. The image quality is amazing, and it has all the features of a professional camcorder plus the ease of use of a consumer model. Its great for DVD production because it easily connects to your computer to transfer video.

Nick, is very right, you don’t need that Sony bvp5 camcorder, that is about a year like 1988, and these professional Canon camcorders, are great! Perfect picture quality, features, and a good lense is what you need! And, the Canon Gl2, and Xl1, etc. is perfect, and if you don’t like Canon, go for Sony, JVC, or Panasonic, they are very good too!

Headstock of my trusty Ibanez SZ520QM. Yes, I know, I’m horrible at winding strings.
My camera is aging quite a bit… I brought it to a repair shop and the service guy said it’s drum needs to be replaced. Well I take his word for it but I’d like to know more about the drum and drum hours, when to know when it’s time to replace, how much does the part cost, etc. Does anyone know?

this is a pro-sumer camera meaning the mechanism inside is pure consumer grade. the heads in miniDV spin at 9000 rpm so they do wear, and replacement is a consideration after about 2000 hours of tape run. when i worked on D9 broadcast gear, the head replacements were not too difficult as the entire assembly was factory pre-aligned. it may run about $ 500 or more, but you will have essentially a new camera when done if not damaged otherwise. if you want a “competitive” quote, Sony service can offer a fixed rate replacement.
