The Sony DCR-TRV140 is a digital 8 tape based camcorder. You know this. You have already learned that the USB driver for transferring low-quality USB streaming video is no longer supported.

To import high quality DV-format you need to have a firewire port on your computer… and you will need to get a firewire cable to connect that firewire port to the camcorder’s DV port. Transferring high quality DV format video will not happen over USB. USB-firewire adapter/converter/hub/cable things won’t work.

If your computer does not have a firewire port, hopefully it has an available expansion slot so you can add one.

In this context, Firewire, IEEE1394, i.LINK and DV are all the same thing – and they are not USB.

refer to page 140 for the location of the DV port. Everything works fine when you use the correct cable and ports.

Use a firewire cord or send your tapes to a video conversion service like StashSpace.Com. They can transfer your digital 8 tapes to digital files for you to access online, on a portable hard drive, or DVD.
