What SLR Digital Camera is Better the Nikon D90 or the Pentax K7?

Answer by Emily
The D90 is a fantastic camera. Either will get the job done, but Nikon lenses (in my and many others’ opinion) are better, and if you’re spending about the same price anyway, go for the better-reputed brand.

Don’t see that one is better than the other. Here is a side by side comparison

Read the dpreview preview on the K-7. It seems to be a quality camera, but costs about 33% more than the D90. I don’t see a 33% better camera.

Buy the D90. I did.

New Nikon D90. MSRP 99, ships September 5th, 2008. Go to www.bumpershine.com for full details and specs.

I am debating buying a digital camera and have narrowed it down to these two. Nikon has a camcorder feature on this model, and while that is nice, it really doesn’t factor in to the purchase. I’m looking for quality of picture and ease of using the camera. I’m familiar with the Cannon cause I have a 35mm EOS already. I will primarily take pictures of things not people, with the exception of my kid. Any information would be helpful.
I have looked at comparison and rating websites, and I have been to a photo specialty store to actually handle both the cameras. I was basically looking for others’ experiences with either of the cameras.

If you have a EOS already get the 50D. There’s not that much difference in the two cameras except the D90 handles high ISO a little better.

Easy answer. Try both and see which brand you like better, they have very different feels and this should be a huge factor in your choice. If you like both equally, then get the 50D if you want a bigger bulkier body that has more fps and is more suited to sports. The D90 is smaller and not so bulky. Ultimately they are both good cameras, and the real deciding factor should be which one you like to use the best, so try them both.

All I can say is I spent 3 months comparing and contrasting the 2. I finally ended up buying the D90. I am happy with my decision. I suggest going to the store and handling both cameras. You may find the 50D a bit too bulky. I will be taking my camera everywhere so I went with the slightly more portable Nikon.

I have the D90. It takes quality pictures and, in its Auto mode, it’s as easy to use and any point and shoot camera, but takes much better pictures. The other modes provide means to take even better pictures and they are straightforward to learn. I recommend the D90.
