What is the cheapest lens for a Nikon D60?

What is the cheapest lens for a Nikon D60?

I bought a Nikon D60 today for $ 249, but it’s just the body. I really can’t afford to splurge on a lens, so what is the cheapest possible lens I can hold for it?

Answer by -Nathan Grammatico-
you got a new d60 for 250$ ? nice hold, sure it wasn’t used?

when it comes to the ‘ cheapest ‘ lens possible, get this lens:

http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-50mm-Nikkor-Digital-Cameras/dp/B00005LEN4/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1218842870&sr=8-1

this is a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 lens, it’s a really nice lens, i’ve gotten some really nice shots from it. It’s a really sharp lens, best for portraiture, because you can really throw the social class out of focus. This lens is around one hundred dollars, but it’s not ‘ cheap ‘ in quality.

Unfortunately, the Nikon 50mm 1.8 isn’t an “S” or “I” series optic, so it won’t autofocus on your D60. The least expensive lens for the D60 would be the Nikon 18-55mm zoom.

Here on Ebay, it looks like they’re going for $ 45-$ 70.

You may also want to look at your community edition of Craigslist. Here’s a few I found when I entered “Nikon 18-55mm” in the search window for the SF Bay Area.

If you want autofocus, there are many choices, but be sure you’re looking at a S or I series lens. Here’s a more complete list of compatible lenses for you.

I am plotting to buy my first DSLR camera. but im choosing between a Nikon D40 or Nikon D60. But one business bothers me is that the lens built-in in the d60 has a vibration reduction which i reckon is very useful but in a d40 built-in lens there is none. I know lots of photographers would want a d40 and save money to buy nice lenses. So help! Thank you so much!

In a very small time you can learn how to hold your camera to reduce camera movement when shooting. The practice is very similar to shooting a firearm … excellent bracing of the camera, breath control and squeezing the shutter release.

Until you get into focal lengths of over 100 mm, you really do not need VR or IS, unless you are a photojournalist and want to avoid using flash as much as possible, but then you would be using a Nikon D3 and a 24-70 mm f/2.8 lens.

If you buy the D40, you will be able to have a 18-55 mm ED lens AND a 55-200 mm VR lens for under $ 550. Look on Amazon for the camera lens combination you want.

today i bought a nikon d60 and i like it. i was trying to choose between the the d40 and d60 and couldnt. i considered them both very carefully and found that the d60 was better but you will obviously pay for it. if money isnt a conundrum i would say the d60 beacuse of the more mega pixels and as you said vibration reduction. but on the additional hand the d40 is very excellent for a starter as i am only just starting for myself at 16 yo. but if money is a conundrum i would say the d40 and later on save for better lenses.

fhotoace is a pro and has correctly answered the question, but I find a certain degree of comfort in having the VR even though I may not need it. In the end I picked the D60.
