Is this Olympus DM-420 digital recorder completely SILENT?

I want to know if I hide it in a room, set to record for like 3 hours, will it be completely silent without any clicking of any kind, and will it record for that long with no one being aware of it (no noise coming from it).

sure, could be done. recording voices in a situation where people have a reasonable expectation of privacy could lead to legal difficulty if done without a court order.

Taken with an Olympus W-10 digital voice recorder with a built-in low-res digital camera.

A friend of mine did this for me a couple of years ago, first copying it to his laptop, and then copied the file to a CD for me. The device has EAR and MIC jacks. Is there a cable I can get to do this?

This is a ‘fancy one’

Connect from the EAR jack to the Audio In jack (normally on the back of your computer).

If using XP go to Start-All Programs-Accessories-Entertainment-Sound Recorder

Open Sound Recorder and hit the red button (record) just before you hit Play on your recorder. When done hit stop and then File/Save.
