I just got a Nikon D70 and want to update the lens. Does anyone know first *what types are compatible and second *are there any sites I can find a nice used lens? Thanks

I’m not sure for used lens but this here you may see more model to choose and cheap more you want. You see at Camera Accessories category and search at search box by use word “Nikon D70″ you will see more match with your camera

Any AF, AF-I or AF-S Nikon lens is fully compatible with your camera. If you don’t mind manually focusing your images, any of the older AI lenses can be used (I have four I use for special purposes on my “D” Nikon bodies)

Here is a complete list of compatible lenses for Nikon cameras.

A excellent source for used lenses is on craigslist in a city near you. No shipping costs and you can test the lenses before you buy

Nikon’s all have the same basic len-mount, known as the F-mount. Cameras like your D70 can use any Nikon/Nikkor AF, AF-D, AF-I or AF-S lens. Successors to your D70 such as the D80, D90 can use the same lenses as can higher end models like the D200, D300/D300, etc. New generation entry models like the D40/D60 and current D3000 and D5000 can also use these lenses but will only autofocus with AF-I and AF-S lenses because the camera bodies lack a built-in autofocus motor to drive the AF and AF-D focus mechanisms.

The best sites for used lenses (IMHO) are http://www.adorama.com, http://www.bhphotovideo.com, or http://www.keh.com. KEH offering the widest choice of used lenses. I’ve bought two lenses from KEH and both seemed to be in much better condition than their ratings suggested to me. Of course, you can also try eBay and Craigslist as alternatives to the suggestions above as you’ll often find lenses even cheaper that way.

Any photography store like Adorama in the US or Henry’s/Vistek in Canada offers used lens too. Just go to the store and bring your D70 body and you may maybe learn more from them too.

but the list and nikon are completely different.
if you have a list already, then why not stick with list and transfer the lenses.
try one of the new canons, they rate as excellent as the nikons.
