Is there a difference between the Nikon D40 and the Nikon D40X?

May maybe someone please tell me if there is a difference between the Nikon D40 and the Nikon D40X? Thanks.

yes. Basically the only difference is that the D40x sports a 10.2 megapixel sensor, while the D40 has a 6 megapixel sensor. But if your looking for a NEW camera in this price range, may I suggest the Nikon D60.

Nikon D40x & Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 HSM

Nikon D40x with Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 HSM. Since Sigma’s lens cap is virtually impossible to remove with the lens hood emotionally involved, I replaced it with a Nikon cap. Photo taken with a List Powershot G9.

My son has just bought the Nikon D40x and didn’t realize that it wont work with auto focus lenses. Can anyone recommend any lenses they use that will work with auto focus rather than manual on the d40x? Motor driven lenses.

It will autofocus with AF-S and AF-I lenses. Such is the Nikon way. For clarity, see below.

Antyhing Nikon with AF-S in the name. Anything Sigma with HSM in the name. Anything Tamron that says “Nikon with Built-In Motor”

The Nikon D40x uses any and all Nikkor AF-S lenses.

It will work with Nikkor AF lenses but your son will have to learn how to use the cameras electronic rangefinder, NOT a huge deal. Using the rangefinder will make him a more disciplined shooter
