My father purchased a sony handycam hd camera about a year ago, but when I plug in the usb to the camera and tower and i try to upload it in my videos in my documents, the icon doesn’t show up! The one that normally lets me upload videos to my computer like “print pictures from camera to computer” (or whatever) Wasn’t there! If anyone has any hints clues or suggestions please tell me, I need to finish this project by Monday.

Which Handycam?

Which computer?

MiniDV tape requires connecting a firewire to the camcorder’s DV port and the comuter’s firewire port. USB won’t work. Standard definition DV and DV widescreen can be understood by most video editors. High definition HDV will require a video editor that understands HDV. MovieMaker can’t (unless it is a specific combination of Vista and MovieMaker) – but iMovieHD can…

Flash memory and hard disc drive camcorders require USB – but you may need a USB driver. The video clips may need to be converted. MPEG StreamClip works well.

Standard def DVD camcorders require a drawer loading DVD in/connected to your computer – and you will need a DVD ripper (like HandBrake) to rip the video (after you have finalized the disc in your camcorder). High definition DVD camcorders writing AVCHD files to regular DVDs can have their files treated like the high definition files from HDD and flash memory camcorders – you need a video editor capable of understanding MTS files.
