how to recover deleted photos/videos from a digital camera (canon powershot A430)?

I had some pictures (and a record [AVI]) on my camera that i accidentally deleted and i’m wondering if i can get them back some how? ( i have a program that can do that but it requires a mass storage option (or a driver letter) which my camera can’t do) how can i do this with out a card reader???? is there some sort of program that dosen’t require a mass storage option or is there some sort of driver i can download wich will make my camera into a drive????

You will most likely need a card reader, and a software that lets you recover deleted files. As long as you do not take a bunch of more photos and write over the sectors where the photos were stored, your images are really still on the card. It is the index or registry that has been deleted.

You can try it just by plugging in your camera to the computer, but if that does not work, a $ 10 card reader will allow the card to mount on your computer like a hard drive.

Several options are out there, such as Norton Unerase by symantic.

But I use this wonderful small software by Lexar called “Image Rescue”. It came free on a card I bought a few years ago, so I do not know if it is still available. Perhaps you may maybe find it on an online software site, or on the Lexar homepage in a download section.

Image Rescue has saved my life more than once. It even found images that I took 6 years ago, even though the card had been reformatted about 100 times.

Whatever you do, get a new card, and do not use your ancient card until you can find a way to save the files.

Tale Of The Image : This image was taken days gone by and it shows a small spot where I was able to shoot cars driving bye. Permanent in the field with my backup camera 350D I shot image after image until rain started to drop on my nose. Most of the drivers in the cars looked to me not knowing what I was doing cause I was just permanent still and shootin in one direction – coming up for cars to drive trough.

i have found sites that say that i can download a driver. is that the same business as the program? or do i need to get something else? it is for a list A540 digital camera.
i have never heard of a card reader,,,if i search for one on the net what do i refer to? and how do they work?

All you really need is a card reader available where ever cameras are sold for small $ $ . No cable, no software no hassle

Windows has a default browser which should do the job. Additional wise download ”picasa” if you don’t find the driver.
