Camcorder Helllllllllllp !!!!?

digital camcorder reviews

I want to go from the VHS-C era into a new digital camcorder. The reviews all seems to point out “poor picture quality in low light”. Question is….will it be any worse than the ancient JVC that I have now? Any thoughts on what brand and model might suit an ancient guy like me?

It won’t be any worse than your ancient VHS-C camera, except that most cameras now-a-days don’t come with a light attachment like my ancient Panasonic VHS-C camera did that helped in low-light situations but sucked the battery dry even quicker.

My first digital camcorder was a Sony DVD camera bought in 2005. It has done fine for me and performed as well as far as lighting situations, but the picture is a whole lot better. I would suggest buying an HD capable camera. My Sony supported wide screen, but not HD. I know that the picture quality of the HD cameras is outstanding.

As for brand, I have found that Sony is a “Windows Only” shop. They don’t support Macs with their own software, so you have to be creative when using Sony cameras on non-Windows machines — not impossible to use them on non-Windows machines, but Sony turns a blind eye to additional operating systems.

The Windows software that they do provide (at least back in 2005) was exceptionally basic. It worked, but the functionality was exceptionally basic.

If I had to do it over again, I reckon that I would have chosen a different manufacturer. The HD capability was only just starting to be available in 2005 and was out of my price range. That is not the case now that there is more competition.

From reading the experiences of public here on Yahoo! Answers, I haven’t seen a apparent answer as to the best entry-level digital camcorder; but, don’t let the term “digital” scare you. The basic functionality is the same as the analog camcorders — there’s not much difference except the bells and whistles are fancier.

One note: If you’re going to want to copy record from the camera to your computer and edit it, then you’ll need to make sure that your computer has the proper port available. All Mini-DV (digital tape) camcorders require a firewire cable and port on your computer to work.

DVD and hard drive camcorders are able to transfer their record over USB2.0 ports, since they’re not having to deal with a tape streaming situation.

Ciao eveyone. I am interested in purchasing a digital camcorder. The one that I am maybe interested in is the SVP HDDV 2800, I have tried to find some reviews on this product, but am not coming up anything. I want to know if this is a excellent one to start with, I am new to anything to do with digital camcorder. I do not want to spend a ton of money but would like a excellent quality one. If any one may maybe help me I would really be grateful for it. Thank you, and hope to hear from you soon.

It is very similar to harvest by Mustek, Aiptek, Flip, etc. that records in MPEG4.

“excellent” quality is subjective

If you are a teenager that wants to place videos on Youtube or share videos with your friends, then these are fine

With record, you get what you pay for.
