Broken digital camera?

Broken digital camera?

I just bought an ancient somewhat broken Olympus camedia E-10. Here is what the description said about it’s functioning/out of order.

“I was unable to get any the LCD screen or electronic viewfinder to function properly, getting only a vague difference in lighting to show up on the screen. I attempted to take pictures and save them to a memory card (not built-in) but got only 'black'. I was able to view photos on a memory card taken with a different camera, and the menu screen also came up and functioned normally. I judge this camera would require a significant repair former to any use.”

i was thinking of taking it to a camera shop in st. louis but they said that the parts for this camera are no longer available. does anyone have any thoughts about

1. what is incorrect with it
2. where i may maybe take it to be fixed
3. how much it will cost
4. may maybe i fix it for myself?

i am pretty involuntarily sloping so i might fix it for myself.
any help y’all may maybe offer is appreciated!!! thanks!!

I’m not an expert on this but did you check the battery?
Also, my daughter had an Olyp. and the shutter was worn out – they said it wasn’t worth the cost.
Why don’t you take it to a excellent camera repair and question if they may maybe give you an estimate on price to repair it?
Excellent luck!

There is no way in the world that you are going to repair it yourself. With no parts available, you have no choice but to buy a new camera. If the parts were available, your looking at a 100.00 dollar (probably more) repair bill.

The auto focus on my 18-55 kit lens stopped working this week so got it ready to ship off to the List Service Center. But while messing with the bubble wrap and getting it ready to go I thought ‘photo op.’ And for some reason that made me reckon of digging our first digital camera out of a box. The top image is just looking down the lens barrel with the ancient camera reflected upside down in the center.

The bottom image is our ancient Olympus D-400 in all its glory: 3X zoom and 1.3 megapixels, what more may maybe you want? If I remember right, we bought this in late 1998 or early 1999, and I reckon it may have cost more than our current List DSLR.

I have a 15 years ancient Olympus digital camera that uses Smartmedia Card.My SM Card is “dead” and does not capture any photos. How can it be revived, reconditioned or formatted? I cannot find new SM Cards in the market.

They weren’t calculated to be repaired.

Some on ebay…

and Amazon

All cards can be and should be formatted regularly.
If you haven’t done it in 15 years, it may maybe clarify why it’s agreed up.
There will be a format mandate in the camera’s setup menu to do the job (always format a camera card in the camera). It will wipe any pictures left on the card.
That may, indeed, revive it.

Nope. They are basically disposable. But, most have a time warranty. Check the manufacturers website!
