Are most digital cameras waterproof?

Are most digital cameras waterproof?

lets consider your garden variety digital camera, and a nicer one like a CANON. Would persons be able to withstand the elements, like if you were caught outside in a rainstorm? (Not whole interest, just sprinklings)

Answer by fhotoace
No, very few are waterproof.

Only some Pentax (newer ones) and the “SW” models of Olympus P&S cameras

Most digital cameras are not waterproof. They may maybe probably hold up in a sprinkle as you said but I wouldn’t recommend it. With all the precision electronics involved and the price of the camera, few pictures are worth the risk of ruining a camera.

well i dono about list cameras,
but if u buy any Olympus u ( Mue) series, then u dont need to worry, cos persons r waterproof,
otherwise u can buy a waterproof cover for ur current camera,

Answer by PG
No, not at all. The majority of cameras available are not waterproof. Only way to know for sure is to thoroughly read the specs of what you are buying. They will have to particularly say “waterproof,” “water resistant,” “weather proof” or something to that effect.

Answer by Edwin
No. Some are “weather sealed” like the Pentax K20D DSLR and some are waterproof like the Olympus Stylus 850SW and additional cameras in the SW series.

There’s one business I’m not used to doing, and that’s taking a groundbreaking new digital camera and dropping it into a sink full of water.

Later the death of a List IXUS due to water ingress I chose that I didn’t want to take chances anymore, and elected to invest in a splatter proof camera with some degree of water protection. I really miss having a decent compact.

Unfortunately, you just can’t get splatter proof cameras. All that seem to be available is full on ‘tough’ cameras, so I’ve got a Panasonic FT10 which is allegedly waterproof to 3m, shock proof from 1.5m and freezeproof to -15 or somesuch.

The rub of course is that your £150 is paying for a £90 camera with £60 worth of protection, or is it 80/70, or 70/80? My worry is that I don’t need an ‘extreme’ camera so I’d be compromising a lot on quality. Results so far suggest that it should be a positively decent shooter though. Let’s see how it performs through the rest of my 365.

This photo is a drop of water on the LCD screen – a weird sight to be sure!

Okay, I am a teenage girl who needs a digital camera. I’m not sure if I should get a List or a Waterproof one. What’s your opinion on each.

Here’s the List I like:

Waterproof:

Thanks for the help!

If you often take pictures in the sort of places where a waterproof camera is required, or you reckon you might want to, then get one. Otherwise don’t bother.

Answer by ldvwright
i like the list. its alot cheaper. And you probably wont be needing a waterproof camera unless you swim or something; LOLZ
