What do you think of Canon EOS Rebel XSI digital SLR camera?

What do you think of Canon EOS Rebel XSI digital SLR camera?

Do you recommend it? I am getting ready to step up to SLR camera so I can start taking professional quality shots..is it simple to use? I despise the regular digital camera with blurr picture of moving objects or slow lag time in between shots etc…

Answer by Joe H
It’s a dream camera.
I’d buy it in a heartbeat if I had the cash.

The XSi is a fantastic beginner camera. It has numerous automatic modes. You can use these while learning to use the manual settings.

Don’t reckon that just because you get an SLR your photographs are going to be professional looking. You will need to learn how to use it. I suggest that you sign up for a class when you buy the camera. Knowing how to use your camera and knowing the basics of photography will improve your photos. The camera you use wont.

Blurry pictures are caused by camera shake or to slow of a shutter speed. For action shots you will need a shutter speed of at least 1/250th of a second. Anything below 1/60th of a second and you can’t hand hold the camera steady enough not to get blurry shots.

Shutter lag will not be an issue with any SLR so you wont have this conundrum.

The XSi is a nice camera. Though, unlike Sony and Pentax, it does not have Image Stabilization (IS) in the camera body. With Canon and Nikon DSLR cameras if you want IS you have to pay extra for it when you buy an IS lens.

The Sony A300 (10.2mp) and A350 (14.2mp) have Live View that really works with the auto focus. In a situation everywhere the only way to get the picture is to hold the camera over your head? Flip the screen down and you can compose, check focus and shoot. By your camera at ground-level? Just flip the screen up.

Sony now has 26 branded lenses, has unrestricted a Carl Zeiss T* line of lenses and each legacy Minolta Maxxum AF lens made since 1985 will mount to any Sony DSLR. Of course, with the in-camera IS each lens you use will have that benefit.

Most accessories from the Konica-Minolta D5 & D7 DSLR cameras are compatible with the Sony DSLRs since Sony bought the technology from K-M in 2006.

The Pentax K200D and K20D can use each Pentax K-mount lens made since 1975, whether manual focus or auto focus. Again, with in-camera IS each lens used will have that benefit.

In any case of which camera you buy, plot on taking some photography classes. In anticipation of you learn about composition, set alight, shutter speeds, f-stops and ISO your pictures will not turn out the way you want. The most expensive, sophisticated camera in the hands of an unskillful person will take lousy pictures. Its not the camera, its the photographer.

just about each best buy in Consumer Reports is a Canon.

stop by a library on your way to buy a canon and check it out

i reckon of it as a start of something expensive. YEAH!!

how professional looking your pictures are really depends on you and your lenses and not necessarily the camera body. don’t be discuraged by this. you won’t regret getting a dslr!

about blur, once you learn the technique for it, you’ll realize that you can do that to your trusty point and shoot.

p.s. YEAH!!

Ai como estou feliz com a minha nova queridinha!! Veio diretamente dos E.U.A chique não?rs Mas ela é maravilhosa!!!

I’m trying to take some low set alight natural night and dusk shots with my camera, but the shutter stays open for too long making the image blurry. Can someone give me some tips oon how to fix this issue.

Answer by jimijack100
Place camera in manual.
Set ISO to 200 or 400
Set gap to very low. As low as it will go. (wide open)
Set shutter to around 100

If images turn out too dark with these settings, they can be brightened with an image editor without too much noise.

This is the largest mistake.

A excellent camera still has shake. Even if it has IS. Get a excellent tripod; invest in one – at least more than $ 60. Velbon are cheaper, but Manfrotto and Gitzos you can invest for the long term. Buy a tripod that comes WITHOUT a head, or at least the tripod AND the head, not a tripod WITH a head.

EDIT:
I am aware that you can’t use a tripod without a head. =) It’s just that a better head can be bought, and most well-built tripods and heads need to be bought separately.

First, unless you want to use a really high ISO, buy a tripod. Non-sparkle night photography requires a longer shutter speed so camera support is vital.

I use – and highly recommend – the FotoSharp Day & Night Exposure Guide ( http://www.fotosharp.com ). Here are some examples:

Vista 45 minutes after sundown; Indoor sports, circus – floodlit; Brightly lit street corners

ISO 100
f4 @ 1/8 sec.
f5.6 @ 1/4 sec.
f8 @ 1/2 sec.
f11 @ 1 sec.

ISO 800
f4 @ 1/60 sec.
f5.6 @ 1/30 sec,
f8 @ 1/15 sec.
f11 @ 1/8 sec.

Floodlit buildings, fountains; Outdoor Christmas illumination; Candlelight close-ups

ISO 100
f4 @ 1 sec.
f5.6 @ 2 sec.
f8 @ 4 sec.
f11 @ 8 sec.

ISO 800
f4 @ 1/8 sec.
f5.6 @ 1/4 sec.
f8 @ 1/2 sec.
f11 @ 1 sec.

City skyline in distance

ISO 100
f4 @ 8 sec.
f5.6 @ 15 sec.
f8 @ 30 sec.
f11 @ 1 min.

ISO 800
f4 @ 1 sec.
f5.6 @ 2 sec.
f8 @ 4 sec.
f11 @ 8 sec.

Since we know that digital noise increases as we increase the ISO its best to use a lower ISO.

Does all this work? Judge for yourself:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/drifter45h/899682567/ ISO 200, f8 @ 15 sec.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/drifter45h/899682797/ ISO 200, f8 @ 15 sec. I composed at 70mm and then carefully zoomed to 210mm during the exposure.

****** EDIT ******
A tripod without a head is really a waste of time. The camera mounts to the head. I use a 3-way tilt/pan head on a 36 year ancient Slik tripod for landscape, scenery and night photography.

Answer by yammer77
use f16 when shooting the moon, etc.
a slower shutter speed will make everything blurry as the clouds, etc. will all be out of focus.

Answer by Branden
Basically. if you’re going to take pictures at night, you need a tripod. Otherwise your images are going to be too dark.

So get a tripod, then you can take the images. They’ll look pristine and perfect.

Hope this helped!
