Sony DSLR-A230L Digital SLR Camera?
Will the Sony a (alpha) DSLR-A230L Digital SLR Camera with Sony DT 18-55mm lens work with my Tamron AF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 LD TELE-MACRO[1:3.9] lens that is now on my MINOLTA ST SL MAXXUM film camera?
Answer by Crim Liar
It will sort of work! The mount is right, though (and I may be incorrect on this) I don’t believe the A230 has the mechanical focus coupling, instead by an electronic coupling (which the lens doesn’t have). This means that you will only be able to focus the lens manually. SO I estimate it depends on what you are plotting on by the lens for – with manual focusing it’ll be a waste of time for sports photography!

I’m not sure if the lens will work on the other Camera or not, I’ve never tried it. I found the Sony Camera that you listed over at Amazon, it seems like a nice camera. If your attracted in viewing it’s specs then just follow the link, possibly you can find the information you need from the description.

So far, only Nikon has crippled the low end cameras by removing the focus motors from the body. Sony has not done so up to this point, let’s hope they never do.
The new SAM lenses, like the 18-55 kitted with this camera, use electronic focus motors inside the lens, just like all Canon EOS lenses. So the lens does not connect to the focus motor, but the camera does have a focus motor for other lenses to connect to.
As for your lens… doubtless, but not guaranteed. You’ll have to try it. I have an grown-up Sigma 35-135 UC that works impeccably on my Maxxum 7000, but is not recognized at all by my Sony A300.

Yes it will work and the auto-focus will work also since sony bought minolta and the use the same lens mounts.

I would nearly defintatly go with the Canon EOS Rebel. Its much better than the others for a reasonable price, I for myself have a Rebel and i like it. Overall a fantastic camera for beginner / expert

You seem to be familiar with the difference between the 2 types of cameras, so I’d imagine you also are aware of the kind of shots you will want. Personally, I’d go For the Canon Rebel. If you haven’t already be sure to check the reviews & prices on Amazon before making a choice. The 2011 models are just starting to be unrestricted now & you can get some fantastic deals on the grown-up models. The XS isn’t the most current model out now for Canon. The T3i was unrestricted very recently it has 18 megapixels & a price to contest. Whatever you get be certain that it allows you to expand for the future with additional lenses & accessories.
The digital SLRs or Dslrs, as they are renowned will provide plenty of future flexibility. The digital units or point & shoot cameras, you mention are what you will live with, since the lens they come with is the only lens they’ll ever have.

well slr are the best no doubt about that . If you need excellent quality picture go for that .
regarding the choice , i would not recommend those either .
i will say either you go for
nikon 5000d , or
canon t1i , or if you can wait for few weeks , go for canon eos 1000d(rebel t3) .
but i still recommend 5000d .
for point and shoot , your choice is not excellent either ..
go for canon s95 , best point and shoot camera you can buy .
there are two more options ,
one is sony nex and another is Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF2
choose any of them according to your budget , but if you need best pictures .. go for 5000d from nikon .

Anything above 10 MP will be fine for what you want, though you will want something that you can connect external illumination to. I use a Nikon D60, its ancient, its cheap, and it works like a charm.
All of my photos are taken with the D60.

If you are looking to take pictures of your products for the web, any camera dslr will do, but the vital part of making your products look excellent is the lighting. Buy yourself a Canon Rebel, any of them used or new, used ones include but are not limited to the xti, xsi, xs. find one that is a excellent deal. then buy yourself some inexpensive sparkle triggers and flashes. will make your pictures look alot better. here are a couple examples.
sparkle triggers –

cheap manual sparkle -

then you just need inexpensive white umbrella or softboxes. it all sounds complicated but it really is not and your pictures and sales will thank you. if you just use the sparkle on the camera, your pictures will look harsh and flat.
