I use a Nikon D60 and in need of a spare battery. Is it safe to use a non-Nikon battery?

Batteries with brands additional than Nikon are cheap, about 1/3 of the price of an first EL-EN9 Li-on Nikon. Will it spoil my beloved D60 if I use it?

Answer by Bob T
Probably OK if it’s like a standard AA or something. Rechargeable batteries might be the best rather than replacing them often. I used energizer rechargeable batteries in my camera.

I use cheap, off brand Opteka batteries with my D40, and they work fine. I have not run into any problems ( will knock on wood ) as yet. I find the battery life the same, if not better. I have no problems with Off-brand batteries, make sure you read the reviews before you buy. There is nothing incorrect with Off-brand accessories in my opinion, well, i’m a small finicky with my lenses, but that’s about it.

When I bought my List DSLR, I was told to buy only List batteries made for that camera. I know they are more expensive, but I don’t want to take a chance on ruining my camera. No way would I use some cheap substitute.

I reckon a non-Nikon battery will work just as well but just like Cat Lover, I won’t take the risk. I, too, have a Nikon D60 and I got a spare Nikon battery with it.

By the way, you got the letters mixed up. The battery for the Nikon D60 should be EN-EL9.

NIKON D60 iso 1600

I just ordered a Nikon D60 digital camera. I was wondering if I can take pictures with it if I don’t have a memory card. If yes, how many?

Thanks!

Answer by fhotoace
No.

No DSLR’s have internal memory.

At less than $ 11 for a 1GB card, you can buy a couple

BTW, that information as well as a lot more is in your owners manual.

Don’t forget to format the card(s) when you get them and again after you have safely copied all the image files to your computer.

You can, they just will not be saved.

Answer by mcbozburger
You can take them then look at them on the LCD without a memory card, but you can’t save them.

Nikon digital slr cameras have a background to lock or unlock the camera when there is no memory card present. Without the card, you can operate the camera & take pictures, but they won’t be saved.

This is useful when the camera is on show in a store for revelation purposes, but of no use in the field.
