Do you need the depth of field preview button on the Nikon d50?
I really want to hold a Nikon d50 but it doesn’t have a DOF preview button. Is this a necessary part of a dslr or can you live without it? Should I pay extra $ $ $ for something like the nikon d70 instead? I reckon the Nikon d50 would be perfect but without the button I’m not positive.

I had a D70 and I’m still mourning its loss. I reckon it has DOF preview but I never used it. Honestly to me that feature is just not necessary. It only takes a few photos for you to get accustomed with what kind of DOF you get at different appertures and under different lighting situation. Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t see how that feature would make much difference since the viewing screen is relativelly small.

The DOF preview button is a nice feature, but hardly the deal-breaker when it comes to the D50. I dare say I have not pressed my DOF preview for oh……… 20 years or so. You won’t miss it.

i just bought a d50 a few days ago, and so far i’ve been really pleased with it even w/o the dof button, i would encourage getting one (and circuit city has them on closeout for $ 630- that’s why i finally bought mine after months of coming up)

Nikon D50
Does a Nikon D50 camera take Reliable Digital High Capacity (SD HC) memory cards? Having a larger storage space would be nice but i don’t want to waste a excellent SD HC if it doesn’t work on my camera. Does anyone know the answer? Thanks!

Call the Nikon help line 800.NIKON-UX 24/7/365 and question them
Only the SD (up to 2 GB) card is listed in the D50 specifications, but my ancient D100 only accepted 2 GB or smaller cards until I had the new firmware installed, the I may maybe use the higher capacity CF cards.
If there has been an update on your cameras firmware, it may now be able to use the higher capacity cards.
