How hard is it getting a best buy credit card?

How hard is it getting a best buy credit card?

I’ve had no credit cards before or anything, and I haven’t paid any bills or anything like that before. I am 18. I did get a account with a jewelry store and I am starting payments soon, but if I went in tomorrow what are the odds of getting it?

it’s not very smart to get a credit card that can only be used at one store. you’re better off getting a visa that you can use anywhere. what if your car breaks down, you can’t get it flat at Best Buy.

I am not sure what BestBuys approval criteria is but I do know that store cards charge WAY more interest (some are near 30%!) than regular credit cards.

I agree with the first answerer in that you should get a general function card. Not only will you be able to use it at more seats – but you will save a TON of money in interest.

Try finding a card that suits you here:

If you are a student, try a card from this page: http://www.fastcreditcardoffer.com/credit-card-search/category/student/default.aspx – Those card offers expect you to have limited credit when applying.

Excellent luck.

WTF Best Buy?
best buy credit card

Got this from my rewards points on my credit card. Both the name and black bar were built into the shrink wrap.

I want to buy a macbook pro but I can’t pay for it all at once, so I wanted to do this.
1. Open up an account for best buy’s card
2. Buy Macbook Pro
3. Pay all of it off within 18 months
4. Cancel Card

Would this be terrible?

Answer by jlf
You can do that if you are approved for the card.

Answer by Judy
Never cancell a card.
Just leave it open.

Having this on your credit report does 2 things.
Establishes length of credit description – 15% of your fico.
Raises your available credit limits.

Pay it off as soon as you can – since carrying balances is terrible for your credit worthiness.

Yes, you can cancel it after you pay off the balance. Though, if this is a Best Buy Visa or Mastercard which can be used other seats, you might want to keep the account open. Use the account periodically for a small buy and pay in full. This will keep the account open and continue to build your excellent payment description and continue to build your credit.

It would not be terrible if your choice is to cancel this card because you no longer need it.

I would suggest keeping the card as Best Buy MasterCard or the Best Buy regular card are very helpful in credit building and reporting to all 3 bureaus each month.

If a card is less than 2 being ancient, closing the account once paid should not affect your credit score that much, possibly a point or 2.

Just reckon about it some more.

Take Care.

Closing a account affects your credit score, but not that much if you have other credit cards. YOu can keep the card if there is no annual fee and use occasionally.
