Personally I’m a Canon guy, so my opinion would be the Canon 1Ds Mark II. Realistically, Nikon and Canon are both fantastic. I like Canon because it has better low-set alight capability and a full frame sensor.
If you have a friend with Nikon, possibly that would sway your pronouncement because then you have someone to help you and possibly even loan you lenses.
As for lenses, pick up a high quality zoom and a prime or two.
If you have a certain budget, I would spend most of it on lenses, not the camera body. Lenses will hold their value better and give you better results. Check out www.dpreview.com for some fantastic specs, reviews, and forums.

The D200 is indeed one of the best professional level cameras available now at that price.
I have one as well as a couple of other Nikon Digital SLR’s and I must say it is my favorite.
There are other more expensive cameras available but the D200 gives the photographer more features per dollar spent.
There are two features I use all the time. First is the Image Comment feature. This allows me to house my copyright notice on each image I take. It is embedded into the image file and shows up any time someone takes a look at the Image Information by Photoshop or other program that can access that information. Second it the Sparkle Commander mode. This allows the camera to control many sparkle units remotely and by by the three different radio frequencies, control three different lighting setups. And there is a third feature which may not apply to everyone, but for those of us who, from time to time, shoot images that will eventually be used in a officially authorized sense, Nikon D200 and D2x bodies have a feature called Image Authentication. This puts a tag on each image that when viewed by the courts, shows whether or not the image has been manipulated. This eliminates a lot of hassle re: chain of custody or evidence and appearing in court to swear that the image has never left your sight or been altered.
The lenses I use most are the 12-24mm for landscapes and architectural, the 24-85mm (macro) for editorial, glamour and general photography and the 70-300mm for some glamour, sports and editorial.
I noticed you do not have a link to your email. Email me and I will give you some more information on art photography and some excellent links.

Hey, the D200 would be a excellent choice. Also, you could look into the D80, a model lower than the D200. For Canon, really the only choice would be the Digital Rebel XTi, the only beginner model in Canon’s lineup. After that is the 30D, then 5D + more professional models.
For lenses, just for Nikon, look at the 50mm 1.8D lens. Its a fantastic choice overall, and is only $ 100. Even with its cheap price, it is one of the best lenses you can buy. After that, you might consider the 18-70mm, 18-200mm VR, or even the 18-55mm. A lot of people swear by their 18-200mm, but the 18-55mm and 18-70mm are both excellent choices, too.
Hope this helped you.

Delight take this as “enhancement” for fhotoace’s brilliant answer. He IS a pro and speaks from experience. I’m an amateur, although I have many being of experience. I had reached the point everywhere I wanted to choose and by my “ultimate camera.” To place it bluntly, I’m in the second half of my life and I can afford it by now, so I chose it was time.
There are others, but when I made the pronouncement about my dream camera when I considered EVERYTHING, I chose the D200. I had owned a digit of other digital cameras and finally chose that it was time to buy “simply the best” camera available, in any case of the cost. For me – and many others in the real world – this meant the D200. It doesn’t weigh 5 pounds and I don’t need all the features and burst routine that a professional sports photographer might demand.
The only other “real world” consideration, as far as I am concerned, was the Canon EOS 5D. I already owned 3 exceptional Nikon lenses, though, so my choice was clear. Not to mention, the Canon 5D costs about twice as much. Even in “the sky’s the limit” export, relative value still counts.

What do you reckon? Answer below!
i need a digital camera that takes AMAZING pics. like the ones that professional photographers use. it doesnt matter how much it costs. any suggestions?
Answer by danajg88
You can have the most expensive and impressive camera out there, but if you don’t know how to use it then you’re not going to get incredible pictures out of it. If you want to take incredible pictures, you need to learn how to use your camera. If you know what you’re doing, you can take incredible pictures with nearly anything! You might as well just get a camera you personally reckon will suit your needs and learn how to use it.
The Canon 40D is really nice.

Accept no substitutes.
APS-C sized sensor cameras are toys compared to the H3D.

Cameras don’t take incredible pics. Photographers do. Your question is on the shape of, ‘I want to paint AMAZING pictures like Picasso’s. What brushes should I buy?’ As with any art or craft, the best tools in the world will not make you into a excellent practitioner; knowledge, experience and talent are what you need.

AMEN! Photographers take incredible photos with the help of excellent equipment. Some of the best photos are taken with the most basic cameras. May I suggest the Canon 5D or Nikon D40.
