don’t you have a 24 days returning thing or something,if you do then just return it and tell them whats incorrect with it, and they should give you new one or possibly they will fix it.

The Sony PMW-EX1 XDCAM EX camcorder records onto Sony SxS PRO memory cards. The camera features a 14x zoom lens, full HD resolution (1920 x 1080) 3-1/2-inch CMOS HD sensor, MPEG-2 Long GOP 35 Mb/s VBR HQ recording mode, and the ability to record 30P and 24P. The camera also has a slow shutter mode and can do time-lapse. Read my first impressions of the camera here: kino-eye.com/2008/07/04/sony-pmw-ex1/

My camera model does not have the transfer cable and port – there is a small port for a USB type cable but I tried to connect to my laptop and no luck – could not find the camera – …..Do I need special editing software for this to work?

If your computer has a drawer loading DVD drive, you can place the small disc in there and rip the video by HandBrake
http://handbrake.fr/

Do not place the small DVD in a slot loading optical drive in your computer.

If you have only a slot loading optical drive or the optical drive on your computer is for CDs only (not DVDs), then you will need to get the AV cable that cam with the camcorder (the cable to connect the camera directly to a TV) and buy an “Analog/Digital Bridge”.

The Pinnacle Dazzle

if your computer has USB only.

Canopus

if your computer has Firewire (preferred).

Warning: DVD based camcorders were never meant to have their video edited. The video they will provide to you is the worst available video quality of any of the camcorder storage types.

I presume you have burned them on the DVD in the camcorder?
Then insert it and explore the disk, it should be able to then open it with windows movie maker or one of 100 programs that allow video editing, DVD format has to be converted back to AVI, to edit DVD’s MP2 can not be edited directly.

If the camera has AV out you need a cable from these exits into a video capture card you can get cheap on eBay….Once together you just run the cable from the camcorder into the AV in on the card and then just press PLAY on the camera and REC on the capture program which can be Ulead DVD…Once captured you burn a DVD….

No simpler way.
