My Olympus stylus 760 digital camera stopped working. Help!?

My Olympus stylus 760 digital camera stopped working. Help!?

I own an Olympus Stylus 760 7.1 megapixel digital photo camera. I worked impeccably fine a few months ago when i last used it, but now, suddenly, when i turned it on it doesn’t work. It works impeccably except that the screen shows nothing but darkness even when pointed at a lightbulb and when you take a picture it doesn’t capture anything but black. So, I wonder what i can do. Delight don’t suggest taking it to the shop produce I bought it in the UK and I live in Costa Rica. There is no way in which I can take it in to be checked. Is there something i could do? I don’t want to toss it away. Help!

Start with the batteries. Make sure they are new/charged.

Olympus digital camera

I’ve been looking around for a waterproof digital camera and the Olympus Tough range caught my eye because I’m a geology student, so I’d be taking it with me on camps everywhere we’re out there no matter what the weather..or the rocks lol.
Though I’ve heard a few nasty comments about Olympus, especially from a friend who works in a camera shop, he said that I’d be comprimising a lot of picture quality with the Olympus, especially at night, and that Olympus is the camera that they get in for most repairs.

I estimate the other options would be the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1 which is not yet out, or that Canon that’s yet to come out…although I’m not too keen on its look lol, it looks like a toy. Unfortunately Nikon doesn’t make any waterproof cameras and there’s no housings available for the Coolpix S560 :(

So my most vital question: Would the picture quality with Olympus be that terrible?

Thanks in enhancement and soz for the long question

Why do you reckon Olympus cameras are terrible?

Anyone can make a nasty comment on any camera … most come from people who reckon the more the spend for a camera, the less they have to know.about any aspect of by one. They expect the camera to do all the work for them … even composition.

Just test the camera in an electronic store and see how you like it.

The SW Olympus P&S cameras are an brilliant choice for any kind of field science. Pentax also makes such cameras, so if you have any SD cards, you can use them with the Pentax.

Well, any waterproof, shockproof camera will have some compromises. But I reckon they do a fantastic job for what they are. I’ve seen excellent 8×10 enlargements from an grown-up Olympus Stylus 1030SW. How huge are you going to print?
Here is a review site with actual images from that model. Any of the newer models will doubtless have better image quality.

Just found out about a new Panasonic waterproof camera with image stabilization.

The picture quality on just about any point and shoot is terrible in low set alight, and Olympus is no worse in this regard than any other point and shoot.

Though, Olympus is certainly one of the worst in point and shoot build quality. A simple eBay search of “Olympus refurbished” will show far more “flat” Olympus point and shoot cameras than from equivalent competitor Pentax. I’ve also talked with my electronics store (Fry’s Electronics) and they get a lot of Olympus returns and refurbs. Your friend is right.

U might consider the Pentax Optio W60 as an alternative to the Olympus:

Waterproof and cold strong, it would be a excellent choice.

I can also recommend the Canon point and shoots with a Canon housing; I’ve used it and it works well.

I have a friend that takes photographs for magazines and he has got his Olympus wet and dropped it numerous times and it still works like the day he got it. My mom has one too and it works fantastic, so in small I reckon they are fantastic camera’s. I am getting the SP 590uz when it comes out next month.

I am on my third Olympus, not because they break but because I am one of those people who feels the need to upgrade frequently.

I own the Stylus 720sw which is one of Olympus’ waterproof cameras. I am pleased with the picture quality and never had any issues or problems with the camera. One thing that I didn’t like was that the optical zoom is on 3x. I also didn’t like that the picture information stayed on the screen during picture review for numerous seconds and there was no way to turn it off. I recently got the Stylus 1010 which has 7x zoom and has the option to turn off the picture information show. There isn’t one thing that I don’t like about that camera. The 1010 isn’t waterproof but underwater housings are available.
