How good of a camera is the Nikon Coolpix P90?

How good of a camera is the Nikon Coolpix P90?

Im looking at export this new Nikon coolpix p90, could you give me the insight on this camera before i buy it?

Answer by Jim A
Insight? I don’t own one but I can tell you this. Nikon makes excellent equipment. This, as you’re doubtless aware, is a point and shoot camera – not an SLR.

At 12.mp it most liable takes very excellent shots for a point and shoot. But, know that even a 6mp SLR will out shoot the best point and shoot all day long.

The reasons are simple, optics, processing and the basic quality of the sensor. All play a key role in quality. While the pixel count is vital if you’re plotting on making poster sized photos – you can pretty well forget about the count. It’s mostly processing, optics (the lens) and the sensor.

But, Excellent Luck

Has to be the best camera on the promote!!!!,
I had this camera over night shipped to me, just in time for my daughters wedding on the beach. Brilliant pictures and with this optical zoom these photos look professional. As a matter of fact these pictures are each bit as excellent as the ones taken by the professional photographer at the wedding. The lens lets in set alight so excellent that I have only used the sparkle once to just make sure it works. The software that comes with it allows you to make panoramic pictures which is incredible how it is able to stitch the photos together to make one picture. You can not tell everywhere one photo ends and the next starts. I have already talked a co-worker into purchasing one. Fantastic CAMERA!!!!!

Hope this help :) Excellent Luck!

Guts of my Nikon Coolpix 5600

My camera has died for sure this time. It has done this before, but it turned out to be a really dead (as in malfunctioning charging circuit) rechargeable NiMH battery that was making it act weird, and it miraculously came back to life. This time, it’s not the battery, at least that I can tell. It’s fatal.

It started over the weekend, visiting my brother and new nephew in Seattle. I place freshly charged batteries in for the trip, and took a few pictures once we got there. But shortly thereafter, when I took it out of my pocket to take a picture, the conservational power set alight was on solid, and none of the controls would respond. Pulling the batteries didn’t help. It was a brick.

When I got it home, I tried some fresh batteries in it, and it powered on! The lens zoomed all the way in (fully extended), and the LCD was showing a live image, but no UI, and again, none of the controls would respond. I pulled the batteries again, and managed to get it to power on again, and retract the lens, with a "Lens Error" message. Fiddling around with the batteries some more, it powered on one more time, stuck the lens all the way out, and was no more. I pronounced the death at around 6:30 PM. ;-)

So, with a dead camera, what does a geek do? Open it up, of course!

There are six tiny Phillips screws (two each on the sides and the bottom) that hold it together. After that, it came open like you see here with a small cajoling. The ribbon connector you see in the bottom right connects to the controls on the back panel, but everything else is in the solid chunk you see here.

I’ve place it back together for now, but the urge to tear into it completely was strong. I’ll never be able to fix it, but who doesn’t like taking electronics apart?

Best case scenario, I’ll be able to salvage the LCD (which is clearly stamped Casio. Heh. :-) , or image sensor, or something for some kind of geeky Make-magazine style project. And, of course, I need to find a replacement camera.

Alas, poor Coolpix 5600, ye served me well. You lived in my right cargo pants pocket for nearly all of your days, surrounded by lint, banged against tables, and led a generally rough life. Perhaps you’ll find peace in digital camera heaven. :-) Don’t reckon that the memory of your faithful service will be lessened by my excitement and lusting after a Canon Powershot SD700 IS. ;-)
