I have a Nikon Coolpix S220 that is around two years old. The quality of the pictures is awful, and I was wondering if there is a way to change that in the settings?

Turn off any auto-ISO feature.

Set the cameras ISO to the lowest it supports.

Use a tripod or a stable support when shooting indoors without a flash

Most people are not aware that the amount of pixels used is a great influence. Also lowering your ISO speed to ISO 200 or even better ISO 100.

First set your camera to maximum pixel usage. A simple way is that many cameras have a “fine” setting to use. If not, with a memory card in the camera, use the setting that give the LEAST number of pictures for the memory card in the camera at the time of this setting.
The LEAST setting give the highest quality picture results that are capable with your camera.

So now you have a low ISO and highest pixel setting. What else to consider? Well the place you have your prints made. I have used Costco with excellent results. So if after the pixel count is high and the ISO is low like 100 or 200 and the pictures are still not to your liking, then try a different place to get your prints made. And if this doesn’t help, then the quality that you eye sees does not match the camera you own. Buy a better camera!
